#10 – “You’ll thank me later.”
You can never go wrong quoting Monk.
#9 – “Plans are worthless, planning is essential.”
This famous quote from Dwight Eisenhower is often useful when discussing plans. It gets to the heart that of planning, that the plan isn’t the important outcome, it is the planning.
#8 – “I’ll get back to you.”
Classic, if you don’t know the answer, just admit it and come back with the answer at a later date.
#7 – “The first 90% of the code accounts for the first 90% of the development time. The remaining 10% of the code accounts for the other 90% of the development time.”
This quote comes from Tom Cargill of Bell Labs. I like quoting this one because everyone in software has run into this project, and the quote is funny. Just don’t say this while going through that project.
#6 – “That’s just, like, your opinion man.”
This is from the Cohen Brothers classic The Big Lebowski. Use this quote when anyone expresses an opinion you do not like.
#5 – “Software is Hard.”
A classic from Donald Knuth.
#4 – “I’ve heard it both ways.”
A classic from the TV show Psych. Great one for when someone corrects you.
#3 – “60% of the time, it works every time.”
This is just a great quote (from the movie Anchorman).
#2 – “That escalated quickly.”
Another Anchorman quote. Great for when things get out of control.
#1 – “Let’s be careful out there.”
Great advice from Hill Street Blues.
I hope you liked this list, and don’t take any wooden nickels.
